There are several parking lots and put-in spots along this stretch of road, providing easy access to both Sahalie and Koosah Falls. About 2 miles further, at Tamolich Falls, the river emerges into the stunningly beautiful and crystalline Blue Pool. The trails are well-marked and well-maintained, and once you get away from the car parks and board-walk waterfall lookouts, the crowds thin out and you have the forest all to yourself. McKenzie River National Recreational Trail [CLOSED] is a 24.1 mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Blue River, Oregon that features a lake and is rated as difficult. And awesome. Sprawling lava fields, towering old-growth forest, crystal-clear mountain pools, and several spectacular waterfalls- all within an hour’s drive of Eugene. Oregon at it’s finest…. The McKenzie increases in size as the trail descends further to the Trail Bridge Reservoir. Whether you’re up for hiking, biking, or just a lazy day on the shores of Clear lake- pack a lunch, put on some suncream, grab a water bottle, and enjoy a day well-spent finding the adventure along the McKenzie River Trail. Luckily, the event planners had scheduled a couple of off-days for the athletes between the preliminary and final rounds of the competition, and we took full advantage….
